Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Business Development Officer

Location: Ikeja, Lagos

Department: Business Development / Marketing Reports To: Branch Manager / Head, Business Development

JOB SUMMARY

The Business Development Officer is responsible for driving deposit mobilization, loan origination, and overall business growth of the Microfinance Bank. The role involves sourcing new customers, managing client relationships, and achieving assigned sales and portfolio targets in line with the Bank’s policies and regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Business Growth & Sales

  • Source and onboard new customers for savings, current, and loan products.
  • Mobilize deposits and grow the bank’s customer base.
  • Market the bank’s products and services to individuals, SMEs, and groups.
  • Achieve monthly and quarterly sales, deposit, and loan targets.

Loan Origination & Management

  • Identify viable loan prospects and conduct preliminary credit assessments.
  • Support loan documentation, verification, and disbursement processes.
  • Monitor loan utilization and ensure timely repayment.
  • Follow up on delinquent accounts and support recovery efforts.

Customer Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers.
  • Provide excellent customer service and handle inquiries or complaints.
  • Ensure customer retention and cross-selling of bank products.

Market Intelligence & Reporting

  • Conduct market surveys and identify new business opportunities.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly activity and performance reports.
  • Provide feedback on market trends, competitor activities, and customer needs.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with the bank’s policies, procedures, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate customer records and documentation.
  • Adhere strictly to KYC, AML, and risk management standards.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of OND / HND / B.Sc. in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or related field.
  • 1–3 years experience in sales, marketing, or business development (microfinance experience is an advantage).
  • Strong sales, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Good knowledge of microfinance products and the local market.
  • Ability to work with targets and minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and basic banking applications.
